1. Warm The Engine
To allow the oil to flow more easily from your engine, it is recommended to change your oil when the car is warm. WARNING: Oil can be extremely hot if the car has hit operating temperatures. It is best advised to allow the car to cool a little (usually 20-25 min).

2. Raise The car
I highly recommend lifting the car evenly in the air to avoid oil run off along the oil pan which will cause a huge mess.

3. Remove Drain Plug
Once the car is in the air, you are ready to start draining the oil from the engine. Using a 17mm socket, remove the plug and catch the oil in your catch pan.

4. Remove The Oil Filter
While the oil is draining from the oil pan, you can loosen the oil filter cap to release pressure in the engine. This will cause the oil to flow more rapidly and the main reason why I recommend removing the filter cap AFTER the drain plug has been removed. When removing the filter cap, do so slowly to avoid oil spillage out of the housing.

5. Replace Filter And Gaskets
Along with a new filter, you will also receive new gaskets for the oil filter cap as well as the drain plug. Using a pick tool (or screw driver), replace both the large black gasket and smaller green gasket on the cap. Remove the old filter and replace with new filter. Don’t install the new filter just yet.

6. Reinstall Drain Plug
By now, the oil should have stopped draining. Using the new crush washer that came with the filter, reinstall the drain plug and torque to 25nm (18 ft/lbs

7. Fill The Engine
With the drain plug in. We are ready to start filling the engine. Pour half a liter through the oil filter housing. This will prevent a dry startup. Once you have poured .5 liters into the housing, you can install the new filter and tighten to 25Nm (18ft/lbs) Pour the remaining 6 liters through the engine fill port.

8. Lower The Car And You Are Finished!
This is one of the easiest jobs you can do it and will last you another 5k miles on the F8x chassis.
From a performance perspective, the F80/F82 M cars are no joke. When it comes to regular maintenance (oil changes for example), they’re not far off from other I6 BMWs.
